Anyone Can Write A Song

An Instinct For Melody

Music is my creative motivation. As a kid enjoyed turning melodies, stories and emotions into song ideas. Every lyric I write, every melody I craft, comes from a spark of instinct; no templates or conjuring up an idea, just raw inspiration.

Over the years, I developed my skill in blending words, melody with instrumentation that meets the mood of the moment.

I am not a performing artist or an entertainer. I don't work to sell my songs to celebrity artists. I'd rather you hear my songs the way I want them to be heard. That always has been my wish.

Over the years I have spent thousands of hours in my home studio working on my songs. I used common keyboard and studio tools to improve on my basic guitar or keyboard parts. As I was working in solitude, I performed the vocal parts with rare exception. Still, my finished songs were not measuring up. My production experience told me the only way forward was having session musicians and vocalists perform each song.

I Aim To Be An Excellent Songwriter

Inspired by the legendary Wrecking Crew, who gave life to countless ‘60s hits, I envisioned The Crossing Crew where I was blending my performances with loops and modern production tools in my Noisy Attic Studio.

Still, with hundreds of songs spanning many genres, I knew my songs needed more to truly shine. If I was to hire top-tier vocalists and musicians for every good track in my catalog, it would cost half a million bucks!

Some will say, "people make great songs on their computers all the time." With some styles of music, yes, but folk inspired music requires mostly acoustic instruments; requiring a more organic approach to song production.

The Performance I Hear In My Head

Then came a game-changer: AI voices and musicians. As a veteran songwriter, I instruct these performers on how to play to my finished track. They deliver performances that make my songs feel as big as I’ve always envisioned. These vocalists follow my melodic cadence while supplying wonderful embellishments beyond my finished vocal.

In my constant search to fit performer to song, I have discovered the timbre of the female voice often is the better fit for many of my songs. These are my lyrics, melodies, arrangements, and mastered mixes employing a wide variety of session musicians to play my arrangement as intended while bringing their unique interpretation my finished material.

My Mission

Creating music has improved the way I connect with the world. The message in my music is as much for me as anyone. Whether one or a million hear my songs, music is my passion and words of hope, faith, and kindness are my mission.

My Best Song?

I can't answer that question. Different songs and styles are unique to a person at any point in time. Some songs mold themselves into a persons being and never let go. â€‹"Love is like that" is a piece of wisdom that seems fresh with each listen. Songs like "A Big Song for Little People" and "Yellow Rose" move me every time I hear them. Let me know if any song connects with you!
